Three new diterpenes, salvivirid inol, viridinol, Viridone, and sugiol were isolated from the roots of Salvia viridis by NMR spectroscopic techniques and showed activity against S. aureus, S. subtilis and P. mirabilis.

Seven Salvia species were investigated recently for their chemical and biological activities and a number of new diterpenoids were obtained and their structures were established through extensive spectral analysis.

Salvia hypargeia root extract, among 16 Salvia extracts, showed the highest activity against the human ovarian cancer cell line and the fatty acid composition was the most active part of the extract.
Insect Repellent Activity of Diterpenoid Alkaloids
Of 29 tested alkaloids, 21 compounds showed promising insect repellent activity, while eight were not found to be active and the highest activity was found in hetisine, a diterpene alkaloid (59.37%) and the lowest activity in another diterpenoid venulol (31.25%).
