Determination of the degree of acetylation of chitin/chitosan by pyrolysis-gas chromatography in the presence of oxalic Acid.
A new method to determine directly and rapidly the degree of acetylation of chitin/chitosan was developed based on reactive pyrolysis-gas chromatography in the presence of an oxalic acid aqueous solution and observed values were in good agreement with those obtained by (1)H NMR and the other methods.
“Click polyester”: Synthesis of polyesters containing triazole units in the main chain via safe and rapid “click” chemistry and their properties
Click Cu(I)-catalyzed polymerizations of diynes that contained ester linkages and diazides were performed to produce polyesters (click polyesters) of large molecular weights [(∼1.0–7.0) × 104], that…
Polycondensation of dicarboxylic acids and diols in water catalyzed by surfactant-combined catalysts and successive chain extension.
Direct dehydration polycondensation of dicarboxylic acids and alcohols was carried out by surfactant-combined Brønsted and Lewis acids, and the expected shift to higher molecular weight region was indicated.
Direct dehydration polycondensation of lactic acid catalyzed by water‐stable Lewis acids
Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) is generally produced by ring-opening polymerization of (S,S)-lactide, which is prepared from dehydration polycondensation of lactic acid and successive depolymerization.…
Artificial extracellular matrix proteins containing phenylalanine analogues biosynthesized in bacteria using T7 expression system and the PEGylation.
It is demonstrated that polyethylene glycol (PEG) can be conjugated at reaction site of Phe analogues incorporated and the increased hydrophilicity of elastin-like sequences in the aECM-CS5-ELF made by PEG conjugation could suppress nonspecific adhesion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).
Amphiphilic Poly(ε-caprolactone)–Poly(vinyl alcohol) Block Copolymer: Preparation from a Bifunctional Initiator
Synthesis of a new block copolymer, Poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-Poly(vinyloxytriethylsilane) (PCL-b-PVOTES) was examined by using a bifunctional initiator 4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)benzaldehyde (4-HEBA) or…
Synthesis of novel chitin derivatives having poly(2‐alkyl‐2‐oxazoline) side chains
Novel chitin derivatives having poly(2-alkyl-2-oxazoline) side chains, i.e., chitin-graft-poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) (4a) and chitin-graft-poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (4b), were synthesized by means of…
Melt spinning of poly(L-lactic acid) and its biodegradability
The melt spinning and melt drawing of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) were carried out with a meltspinning machine, and the mechanical properties, structure, and biodegradability of PLLA fiber were…

Sugar-substituted epoxides 5-8 were synthesized by asymmetric epoxidation of alpha-olefins having neighboring sugars by use of an achiral oxidant, in which the sugar moiety acted as a chiral template.
