Diabetes mellitus: complications and therapeutics.
The present review not only updates knowledge in delineating the molecular mechanism(s) causal to insulin sensitivity or resistance, but also provides clues for the prognosis of diabetes and its better management. Expand
Coagulanolide, a withanolide from Withania coagulans fruits and antihyperglycemic activity.
The results provide further support to explain the traditional use of W. coagulans as antihyperglycemic cum antidyslipidemic agent by the traditional medical practitioners. Expand
Hepatoprotective potential of Fumaria indica Pugsley whole plant extracts, fractions and an isolated alkaloid protopine.
The present investigation demonstrates the hepatoprotective potential of 50% ethanolic water extract of whole plant of Fumaria indica and its three fractions viz., hexane, chloroform and butanolExpand
4-Hydroxyisoleucine stimulates glucose uptake by increasing surface GLUT4 level in skeletal muscle cells via phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase-dependent pathway
Results suggest that 4-HIL stimulates glucose uptake in L6-GLUT4myc myotubes by enhancing translocation of GLUT4 to the cell surface in a PI-3-kinase/AKT-dependent mechanism. Expand
Inhibition of glutathione-S-transferase from Plasmodium yoelii by protoporphyrin IX, cibacron blue and menadione: implications and therapeutic benefits
Purified GST from Plasmodium yoelii was inhibited by compounds like protoporphyrin IX, cibacron blue, as well as by the GSH depletor menadione, and a characteristic inhibitor constant (Ki) was obtained for each inhibitor. Expand
A rare case report of mixed olfactory neuroblastoma: Carcinoma with review of literature
From an analysis of the findings in the 5 reported cases of mixed olfactory neuroblastomas, one might infer that a separate subcategory of ONB, i.e., mixed ONB should be considered because mixed ONBs have an aggressive behavior, high rates of recurrence, and these tumors should be treated aggressively by multimodality treatment. Antihyperglycaemic effect of an unusual amino acid (4-hydroxyisoleucine) in C57BL/KsJ-db/db mice
The results indicate that 4-hydroxyisoleucine exhibits significant potential as an anti-diabetic agent by suppressing progression of type II diabetic states that is suggested by enhancement of insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake in peripheral tissue. Expand
Angio negative spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage: Is repeat angiogram required in all cases?
Repeat angiogram is probably not necessary in patients of PM-SAH and they tend to have better outcome, whereas Classic-SAh pattern of bleed is associated with fair chances of an underlying pathology and a repeat angiograms is recommended and these cases and they have poorer outcome. Expand
Anti-diabetic and anti-oxidative effects of 4-hydroxypipecolic acid in C57BL/KsJ-db/db mice
Treatment of 4-HPA significantly lowered the lipid peroxidation in hepatic and renal tissue and increased the activity of CAT, GSH-Px and SOD in treated mice. Expand
