Levels of hexabromocyclododecane in harbor porpoises and common dolphins from western European seas, with evidence for stereoisomer-specific biotransformation by cytochrome p450.
It is proposed that biotransformation by the cytochrome P450 system is also the most likely process to explain the exclusive accumulation of alpha-HBCD in harbor porpoise and common dolphin from different European seas.

The extinction of megafauna in Australia about 43,000 years ago has been linked to both human arrival and vegetation change. Marine sediment analyses from the east coast of Australia suggest that…
Mesoaciditoga lauensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a moderately thermoacidophilic member of the order Thermotogales from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent.

Based on the physiological, morphological and phylogenetic data, the isolate represents a novel species of a new genus with the proposed name Mesoaciditoga lauensis, which is a deeply diverging lineage within the order Thermotogales.

In harbour porpoises, high POP burdens tended to be associated with lower ovarian scar number, possibly indicating that high contaminant levels were inhibiting ovulation, or some females may go through a number of infertile ovulations prior to a successful pregnancy, birth, and survival of their children during early lactation.
