Genetic evidence of intra-cultivar variability within Iberian olive cultivars
- M. S. Lopes, D. Mendonça, K. M. Sefc, F. Gil, A. Machado
- Biology
- 1 December 2004
The work shows that the current designations of olive cultivars fall short of describing the genetic variability among economically important plant material, and a thorough investigation of the existing variability will prove of major importance for both management and economic production of olive trees.
Identification of microsatellite loci in apricot
- M. S. Lopes, K. M. Sefc, M. Laimer, A. Machado
- Biology
- 1 September 2001
The sequences of 21 primer pairs of microsatellite loci screened from a genomic library of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) are reported and showed to be more informative than isozymes and restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) reported in the literature.
The Lusitano horse maternal lineage based on mitochondrial D-loop sequence variation.
- M. S. Lopes, D. Mendonça, T. Cymbron, M. Valera, J. da Costa-Ferreira, A. Machado
- BiologyAnimal Genetics
- 1 June 2005
The analysis of mitochondrial D-loop sequences from 145 Lusitano founder mares yielded a total of 27 different haplotypes, which support the hypothesis of multiple domestication events in many distinct geographic areas over a broad time span.
Somatic embryogenesis of Prunus subhirtella autumno rosa and regeneration of transgenic plants after Agrobacterium-mediated transformation
- A. Machado, M. Puschmann, H. Pühringer, R. Kremen, H. Katinger, M. Laimer da Câmara Machado
- Biology, MedicinePlant Cell Reports
- 1 March 1995
To induce normal development of plantlets, a range of approaches were compared on solid culture media as well as in suspension cultures including treatments with ABA, GA3, zeatin, darkness, and cold to establish parameters according to which the best transgenic line for a chosen purpose should be selected.

Transformation of somatic embryos of Vitis sp. (grapevine) with different constructs containing nucleotide sequences from nepovirus coat protein genes
- R. Gölles, A. Machado, M. L. D. Machado
- Biology
- 1 October 1997
An Agrobncteriurn-mediated gene transfer system relying on repetitive embryogencsis has been used to regenerate transgenic grapevines and new alternatives in the genetic improvement of grapevine are proposed.
Genetic diversity in the Maremmano horse and its relationship with other European horse breeds.
- M. Felicetti, M. S. Lopes, O. Distl
- Biology, MedicineAnimal Genetics
- 1 December 2010
Cluster analysis, genetic distances and genetic differentiation coefficients showed a close relationship of Maremmano with Hanoverian and Lusitano in accordance with breed history.
Environmental factors driving arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities associated with endemic woody plant Picconiaazorica on native forest of Azores
- C. Melo, C. Walker, A. Machado
- Environmental ScienceAnnals of Microbiology
- 1 December 2019
Investigating which environmental factors influence the spatial and temporal structuring of AMF communities associated to Picconia azorica in two Azorean islands showed that factors such as elevation, relative air humidity, soil pH, and soil available P, K, and Mg influenced AMF spore production and root colonisation.
