The literature on the role of MCTs in solid tumors in different locations is reviewed, with many conflicting results and in most cases there are no functional studies showing the dependence of the tumors on MCT expression and activity.

Increased expression of monocarboxylate transporters 1, 2, and 4 in colorectal carcinomas
The increased expression of Monocarboxylate transporters suggests an important role in CRC, which might justify their use, especially MCT1 and MCT4, as targets in CRC drug therapy.

An important number of MCT1 positive cases are negative for both chaperones, suggesting that MCT plasma membrane expression in tumours may depend on a yet nonidentified regulatory protein.
Evaluation of visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), Lugol's iodine (VILI), cervical cytology and HPV testing as cervical screening tools in Latin America. This report refers to partial results…
Both the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value of VIA and VILI in detecting CIN 2 or CIN 3 could be significantly improved depending on the combination with Pap smear or HCII (sensitivity up to 100.0% and specificity up to 99.8%).

This study depicted a distinct HPV genotype distribution between two centers that may reflect the local epidemiology of HPV transmission among these populations, and extension of this investigation to routine screening populations is warranted.
