A massive binary black-hole system in OJ 287 and a test of general relativity
- M. Valtonen, H. Lehto, S. Doğru
- PhysicsNature
- 17 April 2008
The observations confirm the binary nature of the system and also provide evidence for the loss of orbital energy in agreement (within 10 per cent) with the emission of gravitational waves from the system.
Variability and stability in blazar jets on time-scales of years: optical polarization monitoring of OJ 287 in 2005–2009
- C. Villforth, K. Nilsson, N. Bergvall
- Physics
- 30 November 2009
OJ 287 is a BL Lac object at redshift z = 0.306 that has shown double-peaked bursts at regular intervals of similar to 12 yr during the last similar to 40 yr. We analyse optical photopolarimetric…
Survey for δ Sct components in eclipsing binaries and new correlations between pulsation frequency and fundamental stellar characteristics
- A. Liakos, P. Niarchos, E. Soydugan, P. Zasche
- Physics
- 11 May 2012
CCD observations of 68 eclipsing binary systems, candidates for containing δ Scuti components, were obtained. Their light curves are analysed using the period04 software for possible pulsational…
Photometric multi-site campaign on the open cluster NGC 884 I. Detection of the variable stars
- S. Saesen, F. Carrier, J. Debosscher
- Physics
- 7 January 2010
Context. Recent progress in the seismic interpretation of field β Cep stars has resulted in improvements of the physics in the stellar structure and evolution models of massive stars. Further…
Catalogue and Properties of δ Scuti Stars in Binaries
- A. Liakos, P. Niarchos
- Physics
- 1 November 2016
The catalogue contains 199 confirmed cases of binary systems containing at least one pulsating component of {\delta} Scuti type. The sample is divided into subgroups in order to describe the…
Discovery of WASP-113b and WASP-114b, two inflated hot-Jupiters with contrasting densities
- S. Barros, D. Brown, P. Wheatley
- Geology, Physics
- 8 July 2016
Aims. We present the discovery and characterisation of the exoplanets WASP-113b and WASP-114b by the WASP survey, SOPHIE and CORALIE. Methods. The planetary nature of the systems was established by…
A comprehensive study of six Algol type binaries
- A. Liakos, P. Zasche, P. Niarchos

DETECTION OF POSSIBLE QUASI-PERIODIC OSCILLATIONS IN THE LONG-TERM OPTICAL LIGHT CURVE OF THE BL LAC OBJECT OJ 287
The detection of periodicity in the broadband non-thermal emission of blazars has so far been proven to be elusive. However, there are a number of scenarios that could lead to quasi-periodic…
Spitzer Observations of the Predicted Eddington Flare from Blazar OJ 287
Binary black hole (BH) central engine description for the unique blazar OJ 287 predicted that the next secondary BH impact-induced bremsstrahlung flare should peak on 2019 July 31. This prediction…
