Three new caffeic acid esters, four new lignans, and the known compounds (7'S)-parabenzlactone, dihydrocubebin, and justiflorinol have been isolated from leaves of Piper sanguineispicum by spectroscopic methods and chemical methods.

The more active derivative (1,8-diaminooctane derivative) displayed similar activities on all cancer cell lines studied and induced apoptosis and alpha-difluoromethylornithine, an ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor, had no effect on the activity of the polyamine derivatives.

In situ DART-MS analyses of Ophioparma ventosa provided an extensive chemical profile and noteworthy pinpointed miriquidic acid, an unusual lichen depside so far unknown within this species, granting a first insight into the distribution of the metabolites within the lichen.
