Arabidopsis lysin-motif proteins LYM1 LYM3 CERK1 mediate bacterial peptidoglycan sensing and immunity to bacterial infection
- R. Willmann, Heini M Lajunen, T. Nürnberger
- BiologyProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences…
- 21 November 2011
It is shown that PGN sensing and immunity to bacterial infection in Arabidopsis thaliana requires three lysin-motif (LysM) domain proteins, and proposed that lineage-specific PGN perception systems have arisen through convergent evolution.
Production of fungal and bacterial growth modulating secondary metabolites is widespread among mycorrhiza-associated streptomycetes
- S. Schrey, Eric M. Erkenbrack, M. Tarkka
- BiologyBMC Microbiology
- 2 August 2012
Mycorrhiza associated streptomycetes appear to have an important role in inhibiting the growth of fungi and bacteria, and potentially novel metabolites were produced by strains that were less antagonistic to fungi.
Phage P1-Derived Artificial Chromosomes Facilitate Heterologous Expression of the FK506 Gene Cluster
- Adam C. Jones, B. Gust, A. Kulik, L. Heide, M. Buttner, M. Bibb
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 11 July 2013
The PAC-based gene cluster conjugation methodology described here provides a tractable means to evaluate and manipulate FK506 biosynthesis and is readily applicable to other large gene clusters encoding natural products of interest to medicine, agriculture and biotechnology.
Overproduction of Ristomycin A by Activation of a Silent Gene Cluster in Amycolatopsis japonicum MG417-CF17

Using bioinformatic tools, ristomycin, a type III glycopeptide, which has antibacterial activity and which is used for the diagnosis of von Willebrand disease and Bernard-Soulier syndrome, was deduced as a possible product of the gene cluster.
Distinct mechanisms contribute to immunity in the lantibiotic NAI-107 producer strain Microbispora ATCC PTA-5024.
- R. Pozzi, M. Coles, E. Stegmann
- BiologyEnvironmental Microbiology
- 2016
This study demonstrates that immunity in Microbispora is not only based on one determinant but on the action of the distinct immunity proteins MlbQ, MlbYZ and MlbJ, which are encoded in the mlb cluster.

The efficient conversion of dihydroxynaphthalene derivatives by CnqP3 and the co-location of AA958_24325 with genes characteristic for the biosynthesis of THN-derived natural products indicates that the enzyme is involved in the formation of debromomarinone or other naphthoquinone-derived meroterpenoids.

The biosynthetic gene cluster for endophenazines, i.e., prenylated phenazines from Streptomyces anulatus 9663, was heterologously expressed in several engineered host strains derived from StrePTomyces coelicolor M145, and produced a new prenolated phenazine, termed endophenazine E, determined by high-resolution mass spectrometry and by one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy.
