Recent origin and rapid speciation of Neotropical orchids in the world's richest plant biodiversity hotspot
It is suggested that mountain uplift promotes species diversification across all elevational zones, and the majority of Andean orchid lineages only originated in the last 20–15 million yr.
Phylogenetics of Stelis and closely related genera (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae)

- BiologyPlant Systematics and Evolution
A new phylogenetic analysis of Stelis and closely related genera based on DNA sequences from nuclear ITS and chloroplast matK, based on a much larger sample, is presented; it includes more than 100 species assigned to StelIS and covers all proposed groupings within the genus, many of which have not previously been represented.
Genera Pleurothallidinarum: an updated phylogenetic overview of Pleurothallidinae
- A. Karremans
- 30 August 2016
An attempt is made to place generic names among their close relatives as a first step to re-evaluating the whole subtribe Pleurothallidinae.
Anchored hybrid enrichment generated nuclear, plastid and mitochondrial markers resolve the Lepanthes horrida (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae) species complex.
Phylogenetic reassessment of Specklinia and its allied genera in the Pleurothallidinae (Orchidaceae)
The phylogenetic relationships within Specklinia and related genera are re-evaluated using Bayesian analyses of nrITS and chloroplast matK sequence data of a wide sampling of species to show that these morphologically divergent species can still be recognized by certain conserved morphological traits.
Genus-level taxonomical changes in the Lepanthes affinity (Orchidaceae, Pleurothallidinae).
The necessary changes, including four novel generic concepts, needed to reorganize the Lepanthes affinity are proposed here to insure monophyly.
Vanilla distribution modeling for conservation and sustainable cultivation in a joint land sparing/sharing concept
. Vanilla, an expensive but popular spice used in many industries, faces problems related to its supply. Some of these problems are due to the fact that vanilla cultivation is based on clonal…
A reconsideration of the empusellous species of Specklinia (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae) in Costa Rica
The systematics of the Specklinia endotrachys species complex in Costa Rica is treated as one of at least four, albeit closely related, taxa, and S. remotiflora is described and illustrated as new to science.
LANKESTERIANA, A NEW GENUS IN THE PLEUROTHALLIDINAE(ORCHIDACEAE)
- A. Karremans
- 30 April 2014
We estimated phylogenetic relationships within Anathallis and related genera using Bayesian analyses of nrITS sequence data. The genus is biphyletic in the molecular trees. A novel generic concept,…

After a careful inspection of the type materials, living plants, botanical illustrations, photographs and hundreds of additional herbarium specimens of Vanilla, it is tentatively recognized 62 species for the Neotropics, and the recently proposed genus Miguelia is placed under the synonymy of Vanilla.
