The aims of this publication include the determination of current standard care practices for pregnant women in Japan, the widespread use ofstandard care practices, the enhancement of safety in obstetrical practice, the reduction of burdens associated with medico‐legal and medico-economic problems, and a better understanding between pregnant women and maternity‐service providers.

It is emphasized that TCM may be concealed in post‐partum women by symptoms undistinguishable from acute coronary syndrome, peripartum cardiomyopathy or pulmonary thromboembolism, and that echocardiography may be a useful tool to distinguish them.
