Chemical characterization, antioxidant, cytotoxic and antibacterial activity of propolis extracts and isolated compounds from the Brazilian stingless bees Melipona quadrifasciata and Tetragonisca
This is the first report investigating the potential of antibacterial molecules isolated from propolis of Brazilian native bees using this microorganism model and its results contribute to a better understanding of the chemical and biological properties of these propolis types and provide evidence for its potential medicinal use. Expand
Effects of flavonoids on α-glucosidase activity: potential targets for glucose homeostasis.
It is concluded that disaccharidases are targets of flavonoids in the regulation of glucose absorption and consequently glucose homeostasis. Expand
Antinociception caused by the extract of Hedyosmum brasiliense and its active principle, the sesquiterpene lactone 13-hydroxy-8,9-dehydroshizukanolide.
It is concluded that both the extract and the sesquiterpene lactone isolated from H. brasiliense produced marked antinociception in different models of chemical pain. Expand
Topical anti-inflammatory activity of Serjania erecta Radlk (Sapindaceae) extracts.
Results indicate a topical anti-inflammatory effect for the species of Serjania studied, and dexamethasone was effective in inhibiting both edema and myeloperoxidase activity. Expand
Antioxidant activity of the extracts from Pycnoporus sanguineus mycelium
The aim of this work was to study the production of compounds with antioxidant activity by Pycnoporus sanguineus when cultivated in submerged fermentation using a potato dextrose broth plus peptoneExpand
Determination of phenolic profile by HPLC–ESI-MS/MS, antioxidant activity, in vitro cytotoxicity and anti-herpetic activity of propolis from the Brazilian native bee Melipona quadrifasciata
Abstract Propolis is a rich source of bioactive molecules made by bees by collecting an infinite variety of secondary metabolites from plants. This study determined the chromatographic and massExpand
Anti-mycoplasma activity of Curcuma longa extracts and an isolated compound, the curcumin
Curcuma longa (saffron) is widely used in Western cuisine and its consumption is associated to the prevention and control of various diseases. Nevertheless, there no report on its antibacterialExpand
A Bioguided Approach for the Screening of Antibacterial Compounds Isolated From the Hydroalcoholic Extract of the Native Brazilian Bee’s Propolis Using Mollicutes as a Model
Apparently, the synergism among its compounds is largely responsible for the antibacterial activity of the propolis of this native Brazilian bee. Expand
Antioxidant Potential of the Propolis of Melipona Quadrifasciata as a Preservative for Craft Beer
Propolis, especially from Apis melifera, is a complex matrix that has attracted attention for its many biological properties. Relatively few studies have been done on the propolis of Brazilian nativeExpand
Mollicute Anti‐Adhesive and Growth Inhibition Properties of the Methanolic Extract of Propolis from the Brazilian Native Bee Melipona quadrifasciata
A synergistic effect of the nonpolar compounds in M. quadrifasciata propolis may be responsible for its antibacterial activity, but several purified components can improve its anti‐adhesive properties. Expand
