Characterization of a Novel SARS-CoV-2 Genetic Variant with Distinct Spike Protein Mutations
A novel SARS-CoV-2 variant with distinct spike protein mutations is described, first obtained at the end of January 2021 in northwest Russia and studied in detail its biological properties.
Epidemiological Features of COVID-19 in Northwest Russia in 2021
The findings highlight the impact of vaccination on lowering severe COVID-19 case numbers and the mortality rate, despite ongoing changes in circulating SARS-CoV-2 genetic variants.
Identification and genetic characterization of MERS-related coronavirus isolated from Nathusius’ pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii) near Zvenigorod (Moscow region, Russia)
This work sequenced and assembled the complete genome of a novel MERS-related Betacoronavirus from Pipistrellus nathusii, named MOW-BatCoV strain 15-22, and suggests the potential for hedgehogs to act as intermediate hosts for bat-CoVs between bats and humans.
