Only five strains, all of them haemolytic, tested positive for biosurfactant-production and are thus probably associated with surfactant-producing bacteria.
Biodiversity and Conservation of Plants in Brazil
Coordinated efforts to catalog Brazil's flora are in progress and include projects such as the conservation priority-setting workshops of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment; development of threatened species lists for plants; and the assembly of type data on species of northeastern Brazil through the Darwin Initiative, which greatly assist in increasing knowledge.

Possessing a determinate monotelic inflorescence, the genus appears to be one of the very few members of tribe Scrophulariae recorded for Brazil, and apparently restricted to areas of deep bare sand.

A cladistic analysis of Leiothrix including 33 of its 37 species based on 47 characters was performed, and the two shortest cladograms found and an alternative cladogram one step longer than the shortest ones are discussed.

Hairy root cultures of Brassica napus with high biomass and genetic stability which produce peroxidases, enzymes involved in biodegradation processes used to study the removal of 2,4‐dichlorophenol, a common contaminant in industrial effluents that is highly toxic for human and aquatic life.
