The Conserved FRNK Box in HC-Pro, a Plant Viral Suppressor of Gene Silencing, Is Required for Small RNA Binding and Mediates Symptom Development
The data suggest that the highly conserved FRNK box in the HC-Pro of potyviruses is a probable point of contact with siRNA and miRNA duplexes in populations of miRNAs, resulting in symptom development.
Chlorophyllase Is a Rate-Limiting Enzyme in Chlorophyll Catabolism and Is Posttranslationally Regulated
Results obtained in both plant systems suggest that Chlase functions as a rate-limiting enzyme in chlorophyll catabolism controlled via posttranslational regulation.
Shoot production in squash (Cucurbita pepo) by in vitro organogenesis
Seedling-derived cotyledon explants of squash (Cucurbita pepo L.) of commercial cultivars True French, Ma'yan and Goldy were regenerated in vitro on Murashige and Skoog medium augmented with 1 mg/l

ZYMV causes stunting and major foliar deformation with dark green blisters and mosaics in cucurbit hosts, eventually developing a filamentous leaf phenotype, and is a major constraint in the production of cucurbits world-wide.
Development of broad virus resistance in non-transgenic cucumber using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
For the first time, virus resistance has been developed in cucumber, non-transgenically, not visibly affecting plant development and without long-term backcrossing, via a new technology that can be expected to be applicable to a wide range of crop plants.
Mutations in the HC-Pro gene of zucchini yellow mosaic potyvirus: effects on aphid transmission and binding to purified virions.
Findings support the 'bridge hypothesis', and confirm the binding of the HC-Pro to the virion, and the possible role of the PTK and KLSC motifs in binding to the virus and to the mouthparts of the aphid is discussed.
Mutations in the helper component protease gene of zucchini yellow mosaic virus affect its ability to mediate aphid transmissibility.
It is proposed that more than one site in HC-Pro may be functionally related to aphid transmissibility, particularly in the helper-deficient ZYMV.
A Point Mutation in the FRNK Motif of the Potyvirus Helper Component-Protease Gene Alters Symptom Expression in Cucurbits and Elicits Protection Against the Severe Homologous Virus.
Sequence comparison had previously shown three amino acid changes in conserved motifs in the 455-amino acid sequence of the helper component-protease (HC-Pro) between a severe field strain of

It is proposed that antiviral RNAi activates broad-spectrum antiviral activity via widespread silencing of host genes directed by vasiRNAs in addition to specific antiviral defense by viral siRNAs.
