The Pan-STARRS1 Surveys
- K. Chambers, E. Magnier, R. Wyse
- Geology
- 16 December 2016
Pan-STARRS1 has carried out a set of distinct synoptic imaging sky surveys including the $3\pi$ Steradian Survey and the Medium Deep Survey in 5 bands ($grizy_{P1}$). The mean 5$\sigma$ point source…
The WASP Project and the SuperWASP Cameras
- D. Pollacco, I. Skillen, D. Wilson
- Physics, Geology
- 22 August 2006
The SuperWASP cameras are wide‐field imaging systems at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, and at the Sutherland Station of the South African…
WASP-1b and WASP-2b: Two new transiting exoplanets detected with SuperWASP and SOPHIE
- A. Cameron, F. Bouchy, P. Wheatley
- Geology, Physics
- 25 September 2006
Using the newly commissioned radial-velocity spectrograph SOPHIE at the Observatoire de Haute-Provence, it is found that WasP-1b and WASP-2b exhibit reflex orbital radial-VELocity variations with amplitudes characteristic of planetary-mass companions and in-phase with the photometric orbits.
The size distribution of Jupiter Family comet nuclei
- C. Snodgrass, A. Fitzsimmons, S. Lowry, P. Weissman
- Physics
- 1 March 2003
We present an updated cumulative size distribution (CSD) for Jupiter Family comet (JFC) nuclei, including a rigorous assessment of the uncertainty on the slope of the CSD. The CSD is expressed as a…
CCD photometry of distant comets II
- S. Lowry, A. Fitzsimmons
- Physics, Geology
- 2001
R band CCD photometric observations of short period Jupiter family comets in the heliocentric region of 2.11 AU Rh 5:63 AU were performed using the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope on La Palma in…
The impact and recovery of asteroid 2008 TC3
- P. Jenniskens, M. Shaddad, S. Worden
- Geology, PhysicsNature
- 26 March 2009
A dedicated search along the approach trajectory recovered 47 meteorites, fragments of a single body named Almahata Sitta, with a total mass of 3.95 kg, identifying the asteroid as F class, now firmly linked to dark carbon-rich anomalous ureilites, a material so fragile it was not previously represented in meteorite collections.
Photometry of cometary nuclei: Rotation rates, colours and a comparison with Kuiper Belt Objects
- C. Snodgrass, S. Lowry, A. Fitzsimmons
- Physics, Geology
- 11 October 2006
We present time-series data on Jupiter Family Comets (JFCs) 17P/Holmes, 47P/Ashbrook-Jackson and 137P/Shoemaker-Levy 2. In addition we also present results from ‘snap-shot’ observations of comets…
Thermal properties, sizes, and size distribution of Jupiter-family cometary nuclei
- Y. Fernández, M. Kelley, H. Weaver
- Physics, Geology

CCD photometry of distant comets. III - Ensemble properties of Jupiter-family comets
- S. Lowry, A. Fitzsimmons, S. Collander-Brown
- Physics, Geology
- 2003
We describe the results of a ground-based observational “snapshot” study of Jupiter-family comets in the heliocentric range $2.29 \textnormal{ AU} \leq {R}_{\rm h} \leq 5.72 \textnormal{ AU}$.…
