The 2,2’-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical can be generated by the enzymatic system formed by hydrogen peroxide and horseradish peroxidase. This ABTS radical (ABTS ∞a…
Melatonin acts as a growth‐stimulating compound in some monocot species
- J. Hernández-Ruiz, A. Cano, M. B. Arnao
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Pineal Research
- 9 March 2005
The results point to the co‐existence of auxin and melatonin in tissues and raises the possibility of their co‐participation in some physiological actions as auxinic hormones in plants.

Melatonin: a growth-stimulating compound present in lupin tissues
- J. Hernández-Ruiz, A. Cano, M. B. Arnao
- BiologyPlanta
- 30 June 2004
The data presented in this study demonstrate that melatonin plays a physiological role in plant tissues and is seen to be a molecule that promotes vegetative growth in etiolated Lupinus albus L. hypocotyls, in a similar way to IAA.
A method to measure antioxidant activity in organic media: application to lipophilic vitamins
- A. Cano, M. Acosta, M. B. Arnao
- Chemistry, MedicineRedox Report
- 1 December 2000
Using a spectrophotometric end-point method and microplate-reader equipment, a method that estimates the antioxidant activity of different lipophilic vitamins showed that α-tocopherol has a similar antioxidant potential to Trolox and that β-carotene has 2.6 times the antioxidant potential ofTrolox.
Hypogeous fungi from Southern Spanish semi-arid lands
- M. Honrubia, A. Cano, C. Molina-Niñirola
- Biology
- 1992
Six hypogeous fungi of Ascomycotina and Basidiomycotina have been studied from semiarid zones in Southern Spain. Melanogaster variegatus (Vitt.) Tul. is recorded for the first time from Spain. Picoa…
Pectolytic Enzyme Activity During Intermittent Warming Storage of Peaches
- F. Artés, A. Cano, J. Fernández-Trujillo
- Chemistry
- 1 March 1996
Pectin enzyme evolution in peaches intermittently warmed at 15°C (15°C-IW) and at 20°C (20°C-IW) for 24 hr every 8 days of storage at 0°C, was followed. Cold storage increased PME activity until a…
