Screening antioxidants using LC-MS: case study with cocoa.
- A. Calderón, B. Wright, W. Hurst, R. V. van Breemen
- Chemistry, MedicineJournal of agricultural and food chemistry
- 8 July 2009
A new assay based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was developed for the identification and quantitative analysis of antioxidants in complex natural product samples such as food extracts, and procyanidins were found to be the most potent antioxidant species.
Screening of Latin American Plants for Cytotoxic Activity
The SRB cytotoxicity assay was used to screen plant extracts, in a collaborative multinational OAS project involving Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama, against breast, lung, and central nervous system human cancer cell lines, finding Piper barbatum, Senna occidentalis, and Blepharocalyx salicifolius.

Development of an ultrafiltration-liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (UF-LC/MS) based ligand-binding assay and an LC/MS based functional assay for Mycobacterium tuberculosis shikimate kinase.
This is the first application of UF-LC/MS and LC/MS in the development of ligand-binding and functional assays, respectively as a useful approach to screen MtSK inhibitors.

- Chemistry, MedicineJournal of natural products
- 11 October 2002
A new isoflavone, 4',5,7-trihydroxy-6,8-dimethylisoflavone (1), and a new sesterterpenoic acid (2), together with five known compounds, lichexanthone (3), (-)-pinoresinol (4), betulinic acid,…
Development of binding assays to screen ligands for Plasmodium falciparum thioredoxin and glutathione reductases by ultrafiltration and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.
The binding assay developed has a potential for automated high-throughput screening to rapidly determine the binding affinity of ligands for these enzymes and is tested as an inhibitor of PfTrxR and PfGR enzymes.
