Lead concentrations in Hymenolepis diminuta adults and Taenia taeniaeformis larvae compared to their rat hosts (Rattus norvegicus) sampled from the city of Cairo, Egypt
Concentrations of lead, determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry, were compared between the cestodes Hymenolepis diminuta and Taenia taeniaeformis and its host rat (Rattus…
Histopathological and ultrastructural studies of Henneguya suprabranchiae Landsberg, 1987 (Myxosporea: Myxobolidae) parasitizing the suprabranchial organ of the freshwater catfish Clarias gariepinus…
A high intensity of infection with several plasmodia may cause a disturbance in the respiratory process of the infected catfish, leading to asphyxia and subsequently to weight loss.
Prevalence pattern and biology of Sarcocystis capracanis infection in the Egyptian goats: a light and ultrastructural study.
Studies on monieziasis of sheep I. Prevalence and antihelminthic effects of some plant extracts, a light and electron microscopic study
Treatment of heavily infected animals showed an antihelminthic effect, since the complete absence of eggs was recorded 9 days after treatment when fecal investigations were done, and in vitro results indicated that the plant extract is efficacious at all concentrations tested.
Morphological and molecular biological characterization of Pleistophora aegyptiaca sp. nov. infecting the Red Sea fish Saurida tumbil
Comparison of the nucleotide sequences and divergence showed that the sequence of the present microsporidium was most similar to that of Pleistophora anguillarum (99.8% identity) differing in 13 nucleotide positions, so the present species was recorded and phylogenetically positioned as a new species of Pleistsophora.
New host records of three juvenile nematodes in Egypt: Anisakis sp. (Type II), Hysterothylacium patagonense (Anisakidae), and Echinocephalus overstreeti (Gnathostomatidae) from the greater lizard…
It is concluded that the present study should be considered as a new host record in Egypt for the marine greater lizard fish Saurida undosquamis captured from water coasts at Hurghada City along the Red Sea in Egypt during the period from September 2013 to April 2014.
Five new myxosporean species (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) infecting the Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in Bahr Shebin, Nile Tributary, Nile Delta, Egypt
Five new myxosporean species belonging to three different genera were described from the Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in Bahr Shebin, Nile Tributary, Nile Delta, Egypt. These species are:…
Morphology and small subunit ribosomal DNA sequence of Henneguya suprabranchiae (Myxozoa), a parasite of the catfish Clarias gariepinus (Clariidae) from the River Nile, Egypt
- K. Morsy, F. Abdel-Ghaffar, A. Bashtar, H. Mehlhorn, S. Quraishy, R. Abdel-Gaber
- BiologyParasitology Research
- 15 June 2012
Based on the structure and measurements of fresh spores by light microscopy, this parasite was identified as H. suprabranchiae, and the developmental stages characterizing sporogenesis, capsulogenisis, and valvogenesis of the present parasite were ultrastructurally studied.
Life cycle of Sarcocystis camelicanis infecting the camel (Camelus dromedarius) and the dog (Canis familiaris), light and electron microscopic study
- F. Abdel-Ghaffar, H. Mehlhorn, A. Bashtar, K. Al-Rasheid, T. Sakran, Hoda El-Fayoumi
- BiologyParasitology Research
- 17 October 2009
Experimental infection of carnivores by feeding heavily infected camel muscles revealed that the dog, Canis familiaris, is the only final host of the present Sarcocystis species.
Zschokkella helmii n. sp. (Myxozoa: Myxosporea), a new parasite of marbled spinefoot Siganus rivulatus (Forsskal 1775), Red Sea, Egypt: light and transmission electron microscopy
Zschokkella helmii n. sp., a new parasite of Siganus rivulatus from the Red Sea, Egypt, was described using light and transmission electron microscopy. However, the infection was severe; single…
