Essential oils of catmint (Nepeta meyeri Benth.) induce oxidative stress in early seedlings of various weed species
The results show that the essential oils of N. meyeri have an important phytotoxic effect on seed germination and, consequently, seedling growth by exhausting antioxidative system of the weeds.

The effects of salicylic acid (SA) (0.01, 0.1 and 1 mM) and cold on freezing tolerance (freezing injury and ice nucleation activity) were investigated in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Dogu-88)…
Protective role of salicylic acid applied before cold stress on antioxidative system and protein patterns in barley apoplast
- S. Mutlu, Ö. Karadağoğlu, Ö. Atici, B. Nalbantoğlu
- ChemistryBiologia plantarum

This study was carried out to better understand the role of salicylic acid (SA) applied before cold stress in the cold tolerance mechanism. Two barley (Hordeum vulgare) cultivars, cold-sensitive…
Effects of salicylic acid and salinity on apoplastic antioxidant enzymes in two wheat cultivars differing in salt tolerance
- S. Mutlu, Ö. Atici, B. Nalbantoğlu
- ChemistryBiologia plantarum
- 4 July 2009
The effects of salicylic acid (SA) and salinity on the activity of apoplastic antioxidant enzymes were studied in the leaves of two wheat (Triticum aestivam L.) cultivars: salt-tolerant (Gerek-79)…
EFFECT OF CEMENT DUST ON DIVERSITY AND ANTIOXIDANT ENZYME ACTIVITIES OF PLANTS GROWING AROUND A CEMENT FACTORY
Findings suggest that Artemisia spicigera, Crambe orientalis, and Convolvulus sepium have a more effective defense system than the other species studied, contributing to the selection of plant species for cultivation in cement-dust contaminated fields.
Changes in phytohormone contents in chickpea seeds germinating under lead or zinc stress
The results showed that Pb and Zn significantly delayed and impeded the germination of chickpea seeds and the negative effect of Pb on germination was higher than that of Zn.
Allelopathic effect of Nepeta meyeri Benth. extracts on seed germination and seedling growth of some crop plants
The results demonstrate that the aqueous extracts from N. meyeri have allelopathic potential and should be evaluated as an allelelopathic species, presenting a risk or advantage to seed germination and seedling growth of crop or weed plants.
Cement dust pollution induces toxicity or deficiency of some essential elements in wild plants growing around a cement factory
P, S, K, Ca, Fe and Cl contents were found to be high in the plants growing in areas 0–100 m from the cement factory, compared to same plants at 2000 m far from the factory.

Nitric oxide alleviates boron toxicity by reducing oxidative damage and growth inhibition in maize seedlings ('Zea mays' L.)
The results suggest that the increased NO, resulting from SNP application, improved the antioxidant capacity of maize plants against B-induced oxidative stress.
